Paper.io 2 is a territory game published by Voodoo. You grow your territory by heading out of your own area and closing a colour loop back to it, which expands your sector. The browser build on this page uses Voodoo's HTML5 SDK, and its menus show version 1.6.
How to play Paper.io 2
The game's own tutorial sums it up in two rules:
- Close a colour loop to expand your sector.
- Kill your opponents by crossing their trail.
On a computer you steer with WASD or the arrow keys. On a phone or tablet you swipe to move, and the game asks you to hold the device in portrait, the orientation it is designed for.
The rivals on the map carry player names. When your run ends, the game over screen offers a revive, shows your best score and lets you try again.
Bonuses
Four bonuses appear in the game files: Bigger, Speed Up, Eagle Eye and Shield. There are also boost bubbles marked x5 Bigger and x3 Faster.
Skins and how to unlock them
Everyone starts with the default Cube skin. The rest are unlocked by meeting a challenge, and each challenge is listed in the skin selector:

The skins behind those challenges include a cow, an elephant, a giraffe, a hippo and a unicorn for the map-coverage targets, plus a duck, a pig, a donut, a rhinoceros, a mouse, a car, a mammoth, a police skin, a burger, a bus and a plane among the others.
Tips
- Pick challenges to chase on purpose. The no-kill coverage skins and the time-outside skins ask for very different play from the knockout ones.
- The unicorn is the reward for the biggest coverage target: 100% of the map.
- Progress is saved through a server. If the game cannot connect, it warns you that progression will not be saved before you continue.
