The Solitaire on this page is Klondike, the best-known form of patience. It loads a lightweight browser version hosted at playsolitaire.ee: a green table, a score bar and a handful of buttons, with no menus to dig through. Before the first deal it asks you to choose a difficulty, and from then on everything happens by dragging cards with the mouse or, on a phone or tablet, with your finger.

Layout of the table

Seven tableau columns run across the middle, with only the bottom card of each one turned face up. Above them are the stock pile and four empty foundation spots. The aim is to build all four foundations from Ace to King, each in a single suit. On the tableau you place cards in falling order with colours alternating, so a red six can go on a black seven. A run of face-up cards can be carried together, and a column that has been emptied will only accept a King.

Easy or Hard

  • Easy turns the stock over one card at a time.
  • Hard turns it over three cards at a time, and only the top one of those three can be played.

When the stock runs dry you can flip the discard pile back and go through it again.

How the score moves

The score bar keeps a running score next to a move counter. Points come in small amounts for useful moves: a card from the discard pile onto the tableau, revealing a hidden card in a column, and above all sending cards up to the foundations. Moving a card straight from the tableau to a foundation is the move that pays best. The score goes down if you pull a card back off a foundation, and in Easy mode recycling the discard pile into the stock costs a large penalty, although the total never drops below zero.

Buttons

  • Undo takes back your last move, as many times as you need.
  • New asks for confirmation and then deals a fresh game.

Clearing the board brings up a win screen with confetti and an offer to play again. The game's text has been translated into dozens of languages.

Tips

  • Turn over face-down tableau cards whenever you can; each one both scores and opens up new moves.
  • Do not rush an empty column. Fill it only when you have a King ready, ideally one with a useful run below it.
  • In Easy mode, think before cycling the stock again, because that recycle eats a lot of points.
  • Undo is free, so use it to test a line of play and step back if it leads nowhere.

Questions about Solitaire

How do Easy and Hard mode differ in this Solitaire?

Easy turns the stock over one card at a time, while Hard turns over three at once and only the top one can be played.

Which card can go into an empty column?

Only a King, either on its own or with a run of face-up cards below it.

How do I lose points?

Moving a card back down from a foundation costs points, and in Easy mode recycling the discard pile into the stock has a big penalty.

Can I take back a move?

Yes. The Undo button reverses your last move and can be pressed repeatedly. The New button starts a fresh deal.
