Dong Nguyen is the developer of Flappy Bird, a mobile game that was released in 2013 and became an instant success. The game was downloaded 50 million times and made $50,000 per day from in-game advertisements. In February 2014, Nguyen removed Flappy Bird from both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store because he found the game too addictive. and wanted to focus on his health.
In May 2016, Nguyen announced that because he was pursuing legal action against the person or persons who were impersonating him on social media, and threatening to release a clone of Flappy Bird, he would be returning the app to the stores at a $0.99 price tag. Some speculated that this was either an attempt by Nguyen to reclaim the rights to Flappy Bird, or a way to recoup some of his legal fees.
